true colors essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à I am a lucky person. I was raised by a very caring pair of parents with three very good siblings in an extremely affluent town. I attended the best grammar and high schools in the state, continued on to graduate from one of the best universities in the world, and had no idea what to do next. My drive to excel was both internal and externalââ¬âI really do love success, but I was equally pressured by outside sources to succeed. The advantages I was given served both to help me start ahead of others and stay ahead in life, and to cripple me once I had traveled through those first two decadeââ¬â¢s worth of rites of passage. à à à à à I have long known that having so many opportunities had simply paralyzed my ability to pick one of them. While I know that my grade school friends were raised in the same environment as I, I have always wondered why they dove quickly and headfirst into their careers while I spent a decade trying to make up my mind. This introductory psychology course is the final prerequisite course I take before I begin medical school in less than one month. While I would have liked to have made this career decision ten years ago, I am glad to have experienced and learned all that I have in my life, for those experiences serve to solidify my resolve in having chosen my future career. Fortunately (and unexpectedly), Carolyn Kalilââ¬â¢s book has helped me to understand myself and my decisions. à à à à à I am GREEN. Very green. Actually, my girlfriend stated that I am ââ¬Å"anti-blueâ⬠. She is probably right. I am rational, logical, love to find, diagnose and solve problems, and I love debate. My original plan in life was to become a lawyer. I took the LSAT in my senior year of college, was accepted almost everywhere I wanted to go, but at the last minute ââ¬Å"freakedâ⬠that I was making the wrong decision. My fear was two-fold: was I making a rash decision, and would a career as an attorney allow adequate mental stimulation? I chose not to attend, instead embarking on a very different path for the next ten years. My gold traits are very strong, though not as much as my green traits. My gold tendencies are loyalty, need for efficiency and responsibility. The description of the gold traits seemed to fit me quite well, but the green traits are very overwhelmingly Me. I suppose were I somehow to acquire ... ... knowing how I feel in a given scenario. Furthermore, she has helped me to be considerably less frustrated by ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠people. She has taught me to accept that other people have different motivations, opinions and abilities and that mine should be mine and theirââ¬â¢s should be theirââ¬â¢s. It will be very interesting over the following days and weeks and months as I try to identify the colors for those around me. This will be in part to satisfy my green needs (diagnose and problem solve) and partly to help me interact with the other people of different ââ¬Å"colorsâ⬠in my life. That is probably the most useful aspect of this bookââ¬âunderstanding our interactions with those closest to us. I will try to no longer become frustrated with blues, instead embrace their differing abilities and how they might complement my own. I will try to compete with the oranges, not against them. And I will try not to force the golds in my life to quickly adopt and adapt to my world views. I guess all that remains now is forcing all of those colors around me to read this book so none will be offended when I call them a color. Chores vs. Allowance
Great dinner, delicious,â⬠I say getting up with my plate. Everybody agreed as my family all got up and put their plates on the counter. My step mom also grabbed the pots and pans and stacked them on top of the plates. The whole counter is eventually covered with all different types of dishes. Alright now try to guess who get to wash, scrub and clean all these dishes all by themselves, me. Every time we eat, I'm responsible for dishes, the toughest Job in the house after we eat. It's Just me, soap, a sponge, and an army of pots and pans for 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. Then Just when I think I'm done the reinforcements come in and they need to washed and scrubbed to the point of spotless. I'm in the zone though washing dish by dish so that the attack force is very low on numbers and that I'm almost done. Now it's time for my reward, a pat on the back, and a ,â⬠Good Job,â⬠from my dad, nothing else, no money. Many kids, like the one above have to do chores aroun d the house and don't get an allowance because their parents think these chores should be mandatory. Having to do chores for no reward does not motivate the child to the work they have to do.If the child was paid a few bucks a week, the child would be more motivated to take on the responsibility of doing chores that he/she will get paid a couple of bucks for. A small cash allowance for doing a certain amount of chores would also teach the child to handle money that there working for. I believe that a weekly allowance would teach kids responsibility, and that they would work for things not expect them to be given to them, the child would also learn how to handle money more maturely. One reason why kids should get a weekly allowance for doing chores is that it teaches kids he responsibility to work for things. If your parents do everything for you, you won't take on any responsibility, which wouldn't help you in the long run when you move out of your parents' house. According to one ar ticle, ââ¬Å"If kids have to work for their money, they also will understand and hopefully appreciate how hard it is to work and earn money,â⬠(www. online. ws]. com). This is saying that getting paid for doing chores teaches the responsibility of working for your own money, and that money doesn't come easy. Also according to another article, ââ¬Å"Chores teach life skills, cooperation, nd responsibility,â⬠(www. parenttoolshop. com). This quote says that chores teach responsibility, and that kids should work for things. Although some parents might say that chores should be mandatory, because the parents take care of you, an allowance would excite kids to help and get them doing chores, rather than being forced to do something the child will argue about. A reward would also teach the child to do a Job well but it would take longer than to do the chore quick but not do it well because there not excited to do it. The reward also helps to motivate the child into doing hores so they can help but they'll still get a couple of bucks.Overall an allowance for doing chores has the potential to teach kids responsibility. Another reason why a weekly allowance for doing chores is a good idea is because kids would learn to handle money more maturely and to not waste it on stupid stutt It the child got money the child would learn to save their money so that when they get older the child won't be shop crazy and spend money at every opportunity. According to one source, ââ¬Å"The goal of an allowance is to reinforce the lesson to kids that all money is imited and that kids will be best if they put thought into how they use it. (www. oprah. com). This says that getting money for chores will teach the child a lot about money and how to use it. If the kid learns this from an early age it will help them when they get older and are faced with tougher decisions on what they should buy. Another source also states that, ââ¬Å"Allowances can teach money management skills; how to earn, budget and priorities purchases,â⬠(www. parenttoolshop. com). This says that having money will teach skills that can only be taught by having money.Although some parents think that the child will waste the allowance money, then ask for more money to get something, the child will be told that since he/she is getting an allowance, he/she can't ask for more money when they run out, which will teach the child how to save and spend his/her own money that they earned. Overall an allowance for doing chores has the chance of teaching kids money management skills that children will need when they get older. Although I believe that an allowance for chores is a very good idea I do understand some of the points against my argument are legitimate reasons. Some parents might say that an allowance for chores will have children doing everything for money, not Just wanting to help out. However the parents should split the chores into two groups. I do agree that the child should be responsible for doing everyday chores, so that those chores will be group 1. The group one chores are mandatory and the child does not get paid for doing them. Group 2 would have chores that are more difficult, but if done properly the child would get a reward. The reward comes at the end of the week only if the child completed a certain amount of chores agreed upon by that family.

There you are, 8:30 am standing in the crowded subway platform, suddenly, it is announced that the next train will be extremely delayed because of malfunction. Immediately, you feel a sharp tension increase in your surroundings, people start breathing heavily, pacing unrestedly, you hear them cursing to themselves, tightening their jaws, calling their workplace to tell them in an agitated tone all sort of complains and excuses, however, you see someone that doesnt form part of the picture, someone who doesnt show any emotions, who is still, with its body relaxed, and calm sense, as a matter fact, it appears to be disconnected from this world, rather appears to be effortless floating in space. The goal of meditation isnt to control your thoughts, its to stop letting them control you Dan Millman.. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Meditation Is The Tactic" essay for you Create order Precisely, meditation is the tactic to a less stressful life. The discussion will have its ground based with the great efforts of John L. Jenessy, the president of Stanford University, and now the Chairman of the Board of Alphabet, The Journal of human reproductive sciences, journalist Courtney Shea, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, James Hamblin, MD, Ronald Alexander Ph.D, the comprehension of Physical Education 103, and the experience of 250 meditation sessions. First, the growing practice, meditation, will be defined, followed by its tremendous beneficial discoveries, concluded with a down-to-earth perspective. Meditation is where an individual uses a strategy, for example, mindfulness, or concentrating on an object, sensation, image, movement, feeling. To, overtime, accomplish a rationally clear and emotionally quiet and calm state. Meditation derived from the Latin, breaks down from the verb meditari, which is defined as to think, contemplate, devise, ponder. In addition, Oxford, Cambridge, and Merriam-Webster dictionaries have further definition of the topic at hand; definitions mention think deeply about, the act of giving your attention to only one thing, and to engage in mental exercise for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness respectively. In other words, meditating is an exercise that connects the body and the mind. For its effectiveness, it requires meaningful attention spent on a belief, time, state, or experience. Meditation cultivates the calm consciousness state of the practitioners state, and aims to make it more accessible and withstand it it for longer periods of time. There are some meditations that involve motion, such as walking, feeding, and drawing meditations. Some people are very drawn to these moved oriented meditations, while others choose quieter and still meditations. Nevertheless, experimentation is the best way to find a match. Either way, connecting your mind and body, and practicing mindfulness is a worthy experience. This curios practice has been used for millennials, attracting many researcher to figure why. Old beliefs about meditation music are known to heal diseases while enhancing religious well-being. The old practice of reflection is followed till day. Music and reflection are known to produce a positive life influence in you that helps you reach the objectives better, said John L. Jenessy, the president of Stanford University, and now the Chairman of the Board of Alphabet. Some corporations even provide music for download which helps you reconnect with the spirituality. Nevertheless, this practice is having a exponential growth in the 21st Century, as benefits keep emerging. The Journal of human reproductive sciences has presented a great advocacy toward the practice; Perceived day-to-day strains, that is, challenges that people see as taxing, or surpassing their power to deal, are linked with lesser levels of steroid luteinizing hormone (LH) and progesterone, consequently, leads to higher levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This high perceived regular stress levels were also linked with increased rates of anovulation (the menstrual cycle where the egg is not issued) (2011). Nevertheless, meditation highly decreases stress, and consequently, this undesired physical effects. Furthermore, research on meditation revealed dramatic results. It showed meditation increases working memory, and for productivity, the bright benefit of reflection is improved emphasis and ability to keep point, from distracted thoughts back to attention on the task at hand by just taking some quick breaths. After five minutes, I opened my eyes and felt . nothing at first. But when I went back to work, my head was clearer. I felt more alert and mentally dexterous; the task at hand had gone from mountain to molehill (Shea, 2018). Peaceful inner reflection that has seen increased popularity in these last few years, and for good reason. Only 15 minutes of contemplation has been shown to decrease tension and high blood pressure and better focus (Shea, 2018). The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health said, it can help managing labor pain, headache, heart disease, high-blood pressure, insomnia, nightmares, pain, depression, anxiety, which all consequently affect the emergence of many illnesses (2016). Moreover, evidence for psychological health benefits of reflection continues to put up. Research mentioned in the article by James Hambling, MD, showed that reflection helps in creativity, memory, learning, and thinking skills. Reflection has also been demonstrated to increase feeling as effectively as antidepressant medicine (certainly, with no side effects). Surprisingly, it was also mentioned that meditation makes parts of the mind thicker, just as exercise builds strength (2013). Meditation is also related to help in addiction. Daily meditating can take over into everything else you do. People see themselves magically stopping smoking, drinking less, struggling less and feeling less nervous after a couple of weeks of daily contemplation. Its not a miracle; its only you making the brain some time to contemplate (Alexander , 2016). Although, highly refined studies and research are powerful, a down-to-earth examples might give another perspective. Now, I started meditating when I was 16, hard to remember how my life happened to cross meditation, but since almost 250 meditation session completed, my life has had a inimaginable turn. Although the journey has been tough at times, in the vast majority of my days, Im able to catch myself when negativity, overwhelm, and stress arises and separate from it, resulting in a sensation of a brain as fresh as mountain cold water. In spite of all the previous cases, meditation has proven itself a worthy practice. Mediation, to engage in mental exercise for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness, combined with its dense scientific correlation to a range of health benefits, plus, the down-to-earth perspective, would make someone lose incredible benefits if he or she doesnt incorporate meditation.

The American Dream in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerlad
Everyone in America has their own American Dream. These dreams may vary from having a family or becoming a rich business person. The American dream was strongest in our country during the start of the 1920s. America was just beginning to triumph over poverty. People were becoming more successful as a country. Carrie Latet once said, May I never wake up from the American dream. Along with Carrie, this was the wish of the vast majority of America. In 1929, the Great Depression hit and many Americans did have to wake up from their dream of success. The Great Gatsby, a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerlad, took place during the Roaring Twenties. The main character of this novel was a man named Jay Gatsby. Fitzgerald used Gatsbys lifeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Daisy and Gatsby were in love but it did not last long. She told Gatsby that they were from two different classes of society and he could not provide her with the luxuries she was accustomed to. When Gatsby returned home, he lea rned that Daisy had married a rich man named Tom Buchanan. This just gave Gatsby another reason to want to become wealthy. Gatsbys story parallels itself with America during the 1920s. Like Gatsby, America grew up in poverty. Both Gatsby and America made promises of someday becoming wealthy. At the start of the 1920s, America had just emerged as the hero of World War l. President Dwight D. Eisenhower told America that it was his dream for every American to have two cars in every garage and two chickens in every pot. This was similar to Gatsbys dream. During the 1920s, America was submerged in success and affluence. Eat, drink and be merry was the theme of American life in the 20s. They were too enveloped in this fast lifestyle to worry about what was important for the continuing success of the country. In 1929, the Great Depression hit, and America was back where it started. Just as Americas success crashed, Gatsby himself crashed. His head was too tightly wrapped around Daisy that he did not have a clear mind. Carelessly, he allowed Daisy to drive his yellow cream colored car. Daisy ran over Myrtle Wilson, killing her. This began Gatsbyââ¬â¢s demise. Myrtles husband saw the car that had hit

The Role Of Logistics Air Force ( Usaf ) Operations And By...
I. INTRODUCTION Background The role of logistics in United States Air Force (USAF) operations and by extension United States military operations cannot be underestimated nor undervalued. People of both professional and academic backgrounds have spent considerable time studying and capturing the relevant points of its application. While critical to almost all military units and corporations alike, logistics in definition and application is not easily defined. It is an over-arching word covering many disparate topics such as supply, sustainment, production, transportation, warehousing, maintenance, planning, and others. The USAF implements logistics at the tactical, operational and strategic levels with the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) being its largest logistics focused organization. AFMC is home to strategic organizations such as the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. Organizations such as the 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing (SCOW), logistics readiness squadrons and aerial port squadrons implement logistics at the USAF operational and tactical level. AFMC and the agencies it commands are the USAFââ¬â¢s primary interfaces for both internal and external logistics support; it interfaces with suppliers such as the Defense Logistics Agency and General Services Administration and vendors like Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, and Kovach Mobile Equipment. The USAF employs a significant number of Airmen, civilian, andShow MoreRelatedTHE CHALLENGES OF JOINT OPERATIONS IN THE RBAF ââ¬Å¡Ãâà ¬ PROBLEMS OF DOCTRINE AND EQUIPMENT PROCUREMENT7447 Words à |à 30 Pagesï » ¿THE CHALLENGES OF JOINT OPERATIONS IN THE RBAF ââ¬â PROBLEMS OF DOCTRINE AND EQUIPMENT PROCUREMENT CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION 1. How Long Does it Actually Take to Form a New Habit free essay sample
Maxwell Maltz was a famous cosmetic surgeon in the 1950s. He began to notice a strange pattern among his patients. When Maltz performed an operation on patients for example, on correcting the nose then he noticed that the patients took about 21 days to get used to the new face. And when the patients arm or leg was amputated, most patients felt phantom pains also for about 21 days, until they adjusted to the new situation. This experience made Maltz remember his personal experience of getting used to changes and new behavior. He realized that he also needed about 21 days to form a new habit. In 1960, Maltz published this quote and other thoughts on behavior change in a book called Psycho-Cybernetics. The book became a bestseller, and over 30 million copies were sold. So, from that moment the myth spread that for the creation of a new habit 21 days are necessary. The myth was very believable because only 21 days are necessary to change the life. We will write a custom essay sample on How Long Does it Actually Take to Form a New Habit? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page But the problem is that Maltz just watched what was happening around him, and did not state this as a fact. Moreover, he said that this is the minimum amount of time that was necessary for a person to adapt to new changes. So what is the correct answer? How many days do we need to learn a new habit? Phillippa Lally, a researcher in the health psychology at University College London published a study in European Journal of Social Psychology about how long it takes to form a new habit. The study examined the habits of 96 people, and the study itself lasted for 12 weeks (84 days). During the study, participants chose themselves out of habit, which they planned to form during the specified period. Some of the participants chose simple habits, such as drinking a bottle of water at dinner. Others chose more complex tasks, such as regular 15-minute jogging before dinner. At the end of the 12th week, scientists analyzed the data to determine how much time each person needed to go from the beginning of the formation of a new behavior to the automation of this process. On an average, for participants who provided sufficient data, habit formation took 66 days. Of course, figures can vary according to the nature of the person and the circumstances. For example, those who simply had to drink a glass of water after breakfast reached the maximum automatism in about 20 days. Those who got used to eating fruit at dinner required at least twice as much time to create a habit.Sometimes it can take a whole year. The conclusion of the Lallyââ¬â¢s study is ââ¬Å"it takes 18 to 254 days to form a habit. At the end it does not matter how many days you need to learn a new habit, you will do it one way or another.

The damages of cheating Essay Example For Students
The damages of cheating Essay Russell Procopio English 104.7 2/20/01 The damages of cheating Essay There are many meanings of the word cheat the meaning that sticks out the most to me is, to be unfaithful to somebody, to have a sexual relationship with somebody other than a spouse or regular sexual partner says MS Encarta. Relationships end everyday due to cheating and the emotional scares of cheating or being cheated on can stay with a person forever. Not only does cheating effect the person that has been cheated on, but it also affects the cheater, friends, and family members as well. I personally learned about cheating at a very young age when my parents got divorced. We will write a custom essay on The damages of cheating specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Being only four years old when my parents first split up it was hard for me to understand why my father was not around anymore, but going to see him every other weekend at a new house with a new woman, I quickly learned. As I got older I gained even more of an understanding about what cheating really meant. By my father sleeping with another women he had betrayed a sacred trust between my mothers and he, setting a great example for me to fully understand about cheating. When you cheat on another person not only do you disrespect them, you also disrespect yourself by throwing your word, credibility, and ability to be trusted right out the window. To some people cheating is a way of life and by mentally diluting them self they feel it is ok, and that it is no big deal. The problem with being unfaithful is that even though you are deceiving someone else, the person you are deceiving the most is yourself. If you consistently lie about your feelings, you start to believe your lies, causing you not to know what your true feelings. When a person lies to himself or herself it makes it easier for them to lie to others and by lying to other makes them more worthless then the ashes from a cigarette. When you are a person that is cheated on, it is by far one of the worst experiences that a person can go through. First you have more anger then you know what to do with, all you want to do is go crazy. Anger quickly turns into depression; your mind starts to think of everything and anything. The past, future, present, your mind feels like its speeding in your car at a thousand mile an hour. Your ability to trust is shattered, you feel that you have been used and that you will never trust again. You wish that there were something you could do to change the past. You may blame yourself and think that, only if I had not said this, or did I not show I cared enough. You start to ask why, why this, why that, why. These are just a few of the emotional battles that a person will go through, and only with time will these battle wounds heal but the scares remain forever. When a relationship comes to a crashing end due to cheating not only does it affect the ex-couple but it also affects family and friends as well. Being a listener and a giver of advice are usually the key roles friends and families quickly learn how to play. Playing these roles are not easy and unfortunately with no choice by them, they have now been dragged into unwanted drama. Friends are lost, enemies are gained, becoming the middleman is a typical roll, and life can drastically change. When I was cheated on by my ex-girlfriend, my friends were forced to be in the middle. I would always make my friends find out information for me. I wanted to know anything I could about who, why, when, and how many times my ex cheated on me. .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .postImageUrl , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:hover , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:visited , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:active { border:0!important; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:active , .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u661d882392e7605e297bddfde743c93a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Louis riel Essay Thesis Now as I write this paper I realize what an unfair positions I was putting my friends in.
